BEML unveils 9 MW capacity windmill park
BEML, a mini ratna category-1 enterprise of the defence ministry, has set a target of using 100 percent renewable energy for its own consumption. In this connection, BEML’s 9 MW Windmill Park installed at Bagalkot District in Karnataka was recently dedicated to the nation by defence minister Arun Jaitley through video-conferencing. The windmill will be generating electricity to power the manufacturing units of BEML located at Kolar Gold Fields, Bengaluru and Mysore. Apart from this, BEML has already installed a 5 MW windmill project at Kappatagudda in Gadag District of Karnataka and utilising the power generated through this windmill since 2007, with this almost 68 percent of energy needs of the company will be met through Green Energy. After commissioning the remaining windmill projects on the anvil, BEML is to produce substantial units of electricity and reduce carbon footprint by mitigating large quantum of carbon di-oxide from the environment every year. With this BEML’s electricity consumption requirement will be totally met with renewable energy and it will progress towards being a “Green Company” and contribute towards National Green Energy Mission of increasing Renewable Energy Capacity to 175 GW by 2022 to become World’s clean energy capital.
