Birla veteran Muthukumaran appointed CFO of ReNew Power
NEW DELHI: Birla group veteran D Muthukumaran has been appointed as chief financial officer of ReNew Power, according to a statement by the Gurugram-based renewable energy company.
‘Muthu’ as he is popularly known in business circles had spent 17 years with Aditya Birla group and was the head of the group’s private equity business in his most recent assignment.
Muthukumaran will be responsible for overseeing finance and accounts, legal and corporate finance functions at ReNew Power, the company said in a release. He will be replacing outgoing CFO Ravi Seth, who is retiring.
“We are excited to have Muthukumaran on board of our leadership team. He brings over 2 decades of varied experience in the field of finance and will be a great asset to ReNew Power. I am confident that he will help propel ReNew’s next phase of growth”, Sumant Sinha, chairman and managing director of ReNew Power said.
Sinha who founded ReNew Power less than a decade ago has himself worked at Aditya Birla group in strategic roles in the past including as its chief financial officer.
ReNew Power generates both wind and solar power and has a total capacity of 8 gigawatts spread across various locations in India, making it arguably the largest renewable energy company in the country.
Muthu who is a chartered accountant spent time with Lazard and Deloitte as an investment banker before joining the Birla group. He went on to hold key portfolios such as group head of corporate finance and group head of strategy before spending time as the chief executive officer of Birla’s private equity arm.
