BlueRock Solar Joins Forces with Renovus Solar to Install Community Solar Project
BlueRock Solar, a subsidiary of BlueRock Energy, the premier provider of utility products and services, today announced a joint venture with Ithaca-based Renovus Solar, on a new community solar project in Millport, New York. BlueRock and Renovus, will be installing 2,054 solar panels across three and a half acres to bring affordable, clean energy options to NYSEG delivery customers in the Southern Tier and Central New York.
The project is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2017 and will produce enough energy to power approximately 80 residential units per year. Membership in the project will work in a “pay as you go” model whereby qualifying subscribers can sign up for a one-year contract with no credit check required. Contracts will be priced to save customers 10% on their utility bills. Interested customers can head to www.renovuscommunitysolar.com to learn more.
“Community solar projects, such as this one, open the door to clean renewable energy for residents who may have otherwise been unable to take advantage,” says Michael Francis, General Manager of BlueRock Solar. “No longer is the population of renters, homeowners with an unsuitable roof, or those unable to afford a solar system shut out of the benefits of going solar. Instead of placing panels on individual roofs, residents share the power generated by the project, paying as they go, while enjoying energy cost reductions.”
The environmental benefits of this project are sizable. The renewable energy created from this project will offset CO2 annual emissions from 63,400 gallons of gasoline consumed or 602,000 pounds of coal burned. This also equates to CO2 emissions from 60 homes’ energy use for one year.
