BluPine Energy to Power Rajasthan with 150 MW Solar-Storage Hybrid Under 25-Year SECI Pact – EQ
In Short : BluPine Energy has signed a 25-year PPA with SECI for a 150 MW solar-plus-storage project in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district. The project includes a 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh battery storage system, aiming to deliver reliable, dispatchable green power. Developed under SECI’s 2 GW tender, this initiative supports India’s goal of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.
In Detail : BluPine Energy has entered into a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a significant renewable energy initiative in Rajasthan. The agreement covers a 150 MW solar power project coupled with a large-scale battery energy storage system. This project is located in the Bikaner district and is part of SECI’s broader renewable energy strategy.
The solar project will feature a 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh storage component, designed to store surplus energy and release it during periods of peak demand. This integration of storage is key to providing firm and dispatchable power, which helps manage the variability inherent in solar energy. The project is being developed by Solarcraft Power India 17 Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle set up by BluPine.
This initiative was awarded under SECI’s competitive bidding process for 2 GW of interstate transmission system-connected solar projects with energy storage. The aim is to enhance grid reliability and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. BluPine’s selection underlines the company’s capabilities and growing presence in the renewable energy sector.
BluPine Energy’s CEO, Neerav Nanavaty, highlighted the importance of this project in delivering consistent clean power. He emphasized that such hybrid solutions are critical for meeting energy demands while supporting India’s decarbonization goals. The storage component ensures power availability even when solar generation is low, making it a more reliable energy solution.
The project also aligns with the Ministry of Power’s recent guidelines, which mandate energy storage integration for renewable projects beginning February 2025. It supports the national objective of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil-based energy capacity by 2030, a cornerstone of India’s energy transition.
BluPine Energy, backed by global investor Actis, is currently building a clean energy portfolio of over 4 GW across India. This project adds significant momentum to that portfolio and strengthens the company’s role in advancing India’s green energy ambitions through innovative and sustainable energy solutions.
