Bundesnetzagentur has announced winners of its 3rd rooftop solar PV auction
-
The round was undersubscribed due to significant increase in offered capacity compared to the previous round
-
Tariffs were capped at €0.0891 per kWh and lowest winning bid received was €0.070 per kWh
Germany’s Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur has selected 163 bids with a volume of 203.54 MW for the country’s 3rd rooftop solar auction. It was heavily undersubscribed as the total offered volume was 767 MW.
This round discovered lowest and highest winning bids as €0.070 and €0.0891 per kWh respectively, with an average winning bid of €0.0853 per kWh. Tariffs were capped at €0.0891 per kWh.
Selected facilities can come up on buildings and noise barriers. Details of the winning projects is available on the agency’s website.
In comparison, the 2nd rooftop solar auction round of December 2021 offered 150 MW capacity in all but was oversubscribed with 233 MW offered. It finally selected 154 MW with an average winning tariff of €0.0743 per kWh (see Germany’s 2nd Rooftop Solar Auction Results).
The 1st rooftop solar auction saw average weighted winning bid of €0.0688 per kWh.
The much lower demand is likely to be related to upcoming policy changes. The government’s Easter Package raises the threshold for rooftop systems to participate in a tender process. The current lower threshold of 300 kW will be raised to 1 MW.
According to the SolarPower Europe’s (SPE) Global Market Outlook for Solar Power 2022-2026 report, Germany led European solar installations in 2021 with 6.0 GW and in 2022 expects the country to lead with 7.4 GW.
