After a multi-year process, and a multi-million dollar utility campaign to eliminate solar competition, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) voted today to maintain net metering and continue California’s strong solar market.

The diverse range of groups that expressed support for net metering throughout the process includes organizations representing social justice issues and communities of color, school officials and employees, faith communities, tribes and tribal organizations, farmers and job training organizations. In addition, 150,000 Californians submitted pro-net metering petitions to the CPUC.

In response to the final decision, Bryan Miller, Sunrun Senior Vice President of Public Policy & Power Markets and President of The Alliance for Solar Choice, issued the following statement:

“We commend the Commission for upholding net metering and protecting solar choice for Californians. While today’s decision is a compromise that will require the solar industry to adapt, it rejects the utilities’ anti-solar proposals and continues California’s renewable energy leadership.”
