CEED welcome decision of UP govt for solar plant on top of govt buildings
Centre of Environment and Energy Development (CEED) has welcomed the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to install solar plants on top of all government buildings in the state.
This order, will help in achieving state’s solar target of 4300 MW as envisaged under the UP Solar Policy 2017 and this has the potential to create over 1 lakh direct and indirect jobs.
On Tuesday, UP cabinet had passed a proposal to set up solar plants on top of all government buildings starting with health department.
While commenting on this development, Anand Prabu Pathanjali, Manager-Clean Energy, CEED said “we congratulate chief minister Yogi Adityanath for taking such a decisive and bold step of solarising all government buildings and living up to the expectation of boosting the clean energy infrastructure in the state. This Solarisation will greatly help in meeting the state’s electricity deficit. Our assessment for Varanasi and other cities in the state including Lucknow and Agra, suggest that Government buildings are the most suitable for early adoption of solar rooftop technology. Assessment in these cities suggest us that Solar Rooftop targets can easily be met within timeline by aggressive deployment in these cities.”He added “CEED has done the rooftop solar potential assessment of Varanasi city last year which reflected a potential of 58 MW for all the government buildings in the city. CEED has also completed a rooftop assessment of 18 Government buildings like Circuit house, DM’s Office, Rifle club, and 16 Police stations. These reports were also shared with UPNEDA”.
CEED is currently working on the rooftop solar assessment of 6 major cities in the state and will release the report next month.
