RAIPUR: Day after Chhattisgarh State Power Company registered its protest against a central government announcement debarring the state from buying or selling electricity on power exchanges until the state clears its current bills from power plants, Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO), Ministry of Power, updated its portal ‘PRAAPTI’ and released a fresh list of states having outstanding more than Rs 1 crore, barring Chhattisgarh.
The central agency has named 11 power distribution companies of six states which have outstanding more than Rs 1 crore. They are Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Mizoram and Tamil Nadu. As on August 19, 2022, these states had to clear their bills amounting to Rs 1,37,275 lakh.
The highest four power distribution companies – Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd of Rajasthan will have to clear their current bills Rs 9,020 lakh, Rs 13,912 lakh, Rs 9,972 lakh and Rs 1,265 lakh respectively.
Similarly, Tamil Nadu’s two distribution companies – Tami Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board – will have to clear their bills amounting to Rs 7,190 lakh and Rs 163 lakh respectively. Two companies of Karnataka – Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company and Hubli Electricity Supply Company Ltd – will have to pay an outstanding amount Rs 4,451 lakh and Rs 17,863 lakh respectively. Madhya Pradesh Power Management Co Ltd, Jammu and Kashmir Power Distribution Department and Mizoram Power Department will have to clear their dues of Rs 24,093 lakh, Rs 46,706 lakh and Rs 2,640 lakh respectively.
It may be mentioned, Chhattisgarh state power company had on Friday maintained that it had no dues. Confusion prevailed for not updating the central government portal ‘PRAAPTI’.
Following objections, the POSOCO had allowed Chhattisgarh along with five other states – Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Manipur to participate in all products of the power market with immediate effect.
