Chandigarh: Rooftop solar plant, green house inaugurated at Government Model School
The chief conservator of forests, Santosh Kumar, inaugurated a 50kWp grid connected rooftop solar power plant at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, on Monday.He was the chief guest at a function held at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, to celebrate eco club day.
The resident welfare associations and eco-clubs in association with the Department of Forest and Wildlife organised eco club day. Students and teachers planted saplings in their school premises.Kumar said: “Chandigarh has been bestowed with two National Awards for Excellence by the Union government recently for its exemplary works in the field of solar energy. The central government has set a target of installing 50MW rooftop solar power plants in Chandigarh by 2022.
Though it is a huge task, the Chandigarh administration is committed to achieving the target by providing various incentives and pro-active policies.”
After the solar plant, Kumar inaugurated a green house on the school campus and planted a sapling of Lakshmi Taru.The green house was prepared by the school authorities in collaboration with Lions Club (Central) Chandigarh. Officers, the school principal and the Lions club members also planted saplings.
Kumar urged the students to plant at least one tree every year in the monsoon season.The chief guest later distributed prizes to the winners of the essay-writing and various environment-related competitions that were held in the school.
