City’s first EV charging station launched 3 weeks ago has seen only 2 customers – EQ Mag Pro
Mysuru: The electric vehicle (EV) charging station set up by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) on the Mysuru-Nanjangud National Highway three weeks ago to help the EV owners has provided services to only two customers. The charging station wears a deserted look as the demand for the service is yet to pick up.
The centre set up at a cost of Rs 25 lakh was inaugurated by state energy minister V Sunil Kumar on May 7.
Meanwhile, the officials informed that it is a pilot project and it will witness a huge demand gradually.
According to the authorities, since its inauguration, only two vehicles have been recharged at this centre set up on a busy national highway.
“To save the charging infrastructure we covered it with tarpaulin. The charging facility is available,” explained CESC general manager (purchase) KM Munigopalaraju to STOI. The charging station is located on the premises of the KEB Engineers Association (KEBEA) near Kadakola. Four, three, and two-wheeler charging facilities are available here.
“In the coming days, we are expecting demand for this centre as the number of EVs increases,” he said.
Pilot project
According to CESC MD Jayavibhava Swamy, this is a pilot project. “We are charging according to the unit consumed by the vehicles. At the initial stage, the demand for the EV charging centres would be less, which will increase gradually. In the coming days there will be huge demand for the EV charging infrastructure,” he explained.
“All must work together to popularise EVs. It is a project aimed at meeting the future demands,” he added.
