CU offers rebates for builders who install electric car-charging stations
More people are buying electric cars and wanting to charge them at home.
Recognizing that, City Utilities has begun offering a rebate to home builders who install electric vehicle charging stations in the homes they construct.
According to CU, the EV-Ready Home rebate offers up to $100 per outlet, with a maximum of two 240-volt outlets, per home that would accommodate the more common Level 2 EV charger.
CU believes that in the future, an all-electric vehicle will be as common as the traditional internal combustion engine. With that in mind, CU wants to help prepare for that transition.
Installing electric charging outlets during the time of construction is more cost-effective than retrofitting an existing home, according to CU.
While this rebate is only for new construction with an attached garage, CU says it may look at other options for existing homeowners who wish to install a 240-volt outlet that would support Level 2 charging equipment.
The rebate covers up to $100 per charging outlet. Both the NEMA 6-50 and NEMA 14-50 are accepted with this rebate. The Level 2 charger, which is the most common home model, can be used on either one of these 240-volt outlets.
