Curtail use of fossil fuel to fight global warming: Dalai Lama
Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama asked people to curtail use of fossil fuel and switch to clean sources of energy like solar and power to reduce carbon emissions and fight global warming. Addressing a gathering at main Tibetan Temple at Thekchen Choling in upper Dharamsala on Aryadevas 400 Santazas on the middle way, he asked people to be warm-hearted, to cultivate love and compassion. “The carbon emissions is leading to global warming, but if we really make the effort, change can be achieved.
If we make real effort to reduce carbon emissions by curtailing use of fossil fuels and switching on to clean sources of energy, like solar and wind power, it will offset and repair the damage already done,” he said. He also citied the example of the damage to the ozone layer and steps taken to reverse it. “In the 21st century it is not enough to follow the Buddha as a custom. We need to be warm-hearted, to cultivate love and compassion, as is taught in all major religious traditions, but we also need to know what the Buddha’s teaching is about,” the spiritual leader said.
Meditating on emptiness with single-pointed concentration will yield insight into reality and an understanding of liberation, he added.
