DEEPENDRA KUMAR JHA JOINED AS UPES VICE CHANCELLOR
Deependra Kumar Jha has joined University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) as its Vice Chancellor. With experience in research, teaching and academic administration, Jha is stated to have pursued the philosophy of outcome-based education and accreditation throughout his career. Being a educator his expertise is said to be in development of academic programmes, curricula and regulations.
Sharing the details, the university’s media affairs director Arun Dhand informed that Jha brings a mix of expertise in technical roles on account of his experience of working with reputed corporates in India, Nepal and Japan and subsequently in the academic world wherein he has been involved in developing and building institutions in varied roles. He has worked as senior faculty and international relations coordinator at VIT University, Vellore and as founder dean, School of Engineering and Technology at Galgotias University. Thereafter, he served at GD Goenka University in several capacities which included dean – School of Engineering and of Academics, pro vice chancellor and eventually as the vice chancellor.
A recipient of various awards, Jha was also awarded the Excellent Researcher Award at Hiroshima University, Japan for his outstanding academic achievements for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2009 besides receiving the prestigious Japanese Government Scholarship, Monbukagakusho, to pursue his postgraduate research from 2006 to 2010.
His research interests include power system planning and operation, renewable energy technology, power system reliability and smart grid among others.
