The Delhi government’s new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy aims at boosting the economy, reducing pollution, and encourages usage of e-vehicles. The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced financial incentives for those who purchase e-vehicles for the next three years. The state government announced that with the purchase of a two-wheeler, an e-rickshaw or freight vehicles, the Delhi government will give a benefit of up to Rs 30,000 and for a four-wheeler, a benefit of up to 1.5 lakh.

The EV policies are aimed at faster adoption of EVs both in personal and shared mobility segments and extending the incentives to personal buyers will further help the development of the entire ecosystem. In the near future, the open-permit system for electric autos in Delhi will promote zero-emission last and the first-mile green mobility. The policies are in-line with India’s aim to reduce its oil-import bill and air-pollution.”
In addition, for those who want to purchase electric vehicles for commercial purposes, loans will be given from the Delhi government at very low-interest rates, and registration and road tax fees will be waived. These incentives will be applicable for both battery strapping and fixed charging vehicles. All this will be added upon the financial incentives from the Central government’s existing electric vehicle program.

The government also announced that a state EV fund is being created which will cater to the needs of this policy, and the EV board will be chaired by the Transport & Environment minister of Delhi. The CM also further added that by 2024, the cumulative sales of newly purchased cars in the capital would be 25 per cent, as compared to the current 0.2 per cent, and reach a goal of 100 charging stations across the city in the next year and the target of 200 charging stations by 2024.
