Saudi PV panel manufacturer Desert Technologies will supply solar modules for projects implemented by Jeddah-based energy solutions provider Al Salem Johnson Controls in Saudi Arabia as part of a strategic partnership aimed at promoting solar energy across the kingdom.

The solar panels will be manufactured at Desert Technologies’ factory in Jeddah, it was announced on Tuesday.

Under the deal, the partners will install solar panels on the roofs of residential, commercial and industrial buildings owned by customers of Al Salem at competitive prices. The use of solar power on the roofs of residential and commercial properties is a way to reduce electricity bills, cut carbon emissions and boost the market value of the buildings, said Al Salem’s regional director Maher Mousa.

The initiative will support the Ministry of Energy’s plan to allow citizens and big consumers to build solar plants of over 2 MW at their factories and homes and export the surplus to the public grid, starting from 2022.

Al Salem, part of Ireland-based conglomerate Johnson Controls (NYSE:JCI), provides integrated solutions, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, fire and security systems, building management systems and controls, for the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt and Yemen.
