BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has inked a power sale agreement with SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India) to procure 100 MW of wind-power.

A senior EDMC official said with this agreement, BSES discoms will be getting a whopping 400 MW of wind power. “Earlier, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) had signed agreements for 250 MW of wind-power and BYPL for 50 MW (150 MW including the latest agreement),” he said.

The officials further said of these, 100 MW of wind power will start flowing from November 2018 and the remaining 300 MW from November 2019 for a period of 25 years at a very competitive tariff of Rs 2.52 per unit.

BSES spokesperson said, “We are keen to promote renewable power in Delhi while ensuring that there is minimal burden on the consumers. ” The discom has been procuring energy from all available renewable sources at economical rates and the recent move is a testimonial to these efforts.”

He said this is not only one of the lowest tariffs for wind power but is also priced substantially lower than the average cost of long-term PPAs, which are above Rs 4.5 per unit. “Moreover, this agreement will help BSES discoms fulfill their Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO),” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that Delhi’s peak power demand had touched a record high of 7,016 MW this summer.
