Dr Govind Bhagwatikar to head Sany Group’s renewable business in India
China’s construction equipment manufacturer Sany Group has appointed Dr Govind Bhagwatikar as Business Head for its renewable energy business unit in India.Last month, Sany signed the Green Energy Commitment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards development of 2,000 MW of renewable energy projects with investments of $3 billion (Rs 20,000 crores) for the period 2016-20.According to a company statement, Dr Bhagwatikar comes with a diverse experience of over 20 years in the grid connected wind & solar energy and power sector.
“Going forward, renewable energy business is going to be a key focus area for us. Dr Bhagwatikar’s experience and expertise in the Indian renewable energy business will add great value as the company forays into wind energy business this year,” Deepak Garg, CEO Sany India said in the statement.Prior to joining Sany, Dr Bhagwatikar had been associated with Vestas, BP, Siemens and Welspun Renewables and played a key role in their growth through turnkey projects, greenfield development, re-powering, bidding, and technology acquisition in wind and solar energy.
“I am excited with this challenging role and look forward to developing this new business right from its commencement. India is a strategic long-term growth market for Sany Global,” Dr Bhagwatikar said in the statement.Dr Bhagwatikar holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and electrical (electronics & power) and a master’s degree in power systems and finance & banking. He also holds a doctorate (PhD) in electrical engineering with specialisation in wind energy.
