EG Group aims to grow EV charging footprint – EQ Mag
The retailer is planning to install ultra-fast charging equipment at 20 convenience stores by the end of the year and more solutions to boost e-mobility transition.
The Group has revealed its plans for an e-mobility push in the near future. According to Zuber Issa, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of the firm, the company is looking to explore “a range of options to further accelerate” the rollout of electric vehicle (EV) charging services across its retail network.
The news was revealed in EG’s third-quarter earnings report alongside plans for deployment of ultra-fast charging stations at 20 convenience stores and petrol stations. The document states that these locations will be branded as the proprietary EV Point and will expand the firm’s effort to push for e-mobility transition.
Currently, the company operates 250 charging stations across 98 c-stores in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. In addition, there are an unidentified number of sites in development at 50 locations in the United States.
The announcement was made after the Group revealed its overall EV charging strategy through its inaugural environmental, social and governance (ESG) report. The group seeks to reach a total of 300 charging points in the U.K. and Europe by the end of the year and become a net-zero company by 2050.
EG’s plans include having two to six charging points per location, which will include load-balancing technology to let customers use a single charting point simultaneously.
