The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) has signed a contract with B.Grimm Power-Energy China Consortium to develop the world’s largest hydro floating solar hybrid power project at Sirindhorn dam in Ubon Ratchathani.

Egat and the consortium signed the agreement on Monday evening.

The project has a power capacity of 45 megawatts for the floating solar farm worth 842 million baht. The consortium will develop the power project under an engineering, procurement and construction contract.

Solar power generation on the water surface requires 450 rai, equal to solar panels on a ground site.

Egat expects to commence operation of this project by December.

Thepparat Theppitak, Egat’s deputy governor for power plant development and renewable energy, said Sirindhorn dam is the pilot project for the hybrid system, with 36MW hydropower generation to enlarge capacity optimisation.

“Egat is committed to the floating solar farms at nine dams nationwide with a combined capacity of 2,725MW,” he said.

“Egat plans to install energy management and storage system in coming years.”

Preeyanart Soontornwata, president of B.Grimm Power Plc, said Egat invited bids for this project at Sirindhorn dam.

Egat’s board of directors approved B.Grimm Power-Energy China Consortium as the winning bidder.

B.Grimm Power will be responsible for onshore project development.

Egat also issued a letter of intent on Dec 16 to the consortium.
