Electric Vehicle Approved scheme achieves 50 dealerships milestone
The Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) scheme has reached a key milestone in having 50 dealerships which have been ‘EV approved’, meaning their ‘EVA badge’ can be displayed.
Six months ago, the National Franchised Dealers Association’s (NFDA) initiative was launched officially, and since then franchised dealers have been encouraged to join up.
Membership already includes dealers selling major brands including Nissan, Volkswagen, Kia, Hyundai, Renault, Audi, Mitsubishi, Jaguar Land Rover, BMW and Volvo.
EVA is endorsed by the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), and was put in place to recognise expertise in the EV sector.
Sue Robinson, director of the NFDA, said: “It is extremely positive to see franchised retailers embrace NFDA’s Electric Vehicle Approved accreditation scheme which demonstrates the efforts the automotive retail industry is making to drive the growth of the electric vehicle sector.
“The electric vehicle sector is experiencing significant growth and retailers see increasing interest from consumers despite a number of challenges.
“We are confident through the continuous educational process implemented by retailers the current barriers will be overcome.”
EVA dealerships are independently audited by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) in order to ensure they meet the required standards.
These standards cover EV retail and aftersales, including communication with the consumer, staff training and the availability of charge points at its dealership site.
This badge of approval will allow retailers to boost consumers’ confidence in their knowledge and expertise, allowing motorists to make an informed decision on whether to make the switch to electric vehicles or not.
Tim Anderson, head of transport at Energy Saving Trust, said: “It is welcome news that 50 more dealerships have passed EST’s robust and independent audit.
“This milestone means more people will be able to access a convenient EVA dealership, and dealers are keen to join the quickly expanding network.
“EVA accreditation guarantees knowledgeable staff to inform a vehicle purchase and an enhanced buying experience, as well as specifically-trained technicians to service and maintain the new or used EV to the highest standard.”
