LANDRUM, S.C.: A new electric vehicle charging station is up and running in Landrum.
The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports the charging station was funded by a grant from the South Carolina Energy Office.
Landrum City Administrator Rich Caplan says the city will track how frequently the station is used this summer. He says it will be free to use through September. Beginning in October, he says it will cost $1 per hour to charge a vehicle.
Caplan notes that electric vehicle sales increased by 81 percent nationwide in 2018.
Caplan says Landrum is considering using electric vehicles in the police department and city officials felt adding the station would help improve quality of life for city residents.
