Empower Micro Systems Inc. (Empower), a state-of-the-art power electronics technology provider for smart home energy systems, recently announced the launch of its next-generation Genesys 8K™ modular smart home energy platform designed specifically for residential solar, energy storage, and unified solar + energy storage installations. The modular platform’s unique design sets a new industry standard for simplicity of logistics and ease of installation. Genesys 8K requires only two components, or stock keeping units (SKUs), for residential installations: the 8K PowerBridge™, a module-level Fractal Inverter™; and the 8K PowerHub™, a Smart Energy Combiner. This is a 4X SKU reduction from its nearest competitor. Data from the April 2017 “Solar Snapshot” report by ROTH Capital Partners and as covered by GTM in an article by Andrew Beebe in February 2017 indicate that the U.S. residential solar PV market has pivoted away from large and highly concentrated solar equipment purchasers to a more distributor-focused and hyper-regional customer base for solar equipment manufacturers.
