New Delhi : The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has notified the draft revised norms for emissions from generators which will be same for all fuels and even for upcoming fuels.

It will be effective from July 2023.

At present there are three different emission norms for generator sets based on different fuels gasoline, diesel and dedicated CNG, dedicated LPG, dual fuel and bi-fuel. The revised standard is a single standard covering all available fuels and upcoming fuels such as producer gas, hydrogen gas, etc., the proposal said.

The draft notification was issued late Friday night.

A senior scientist in the ministry said, we had constituted an expert group to study it and then we also reviewed the findings and only after that issued this draft notification.

Air pollution is a growing threat across India and among the point sources of emissions, generators using different fuels are a major source. The Center has also taken several regulatory measures for prevention, control and abatement of air pollution in the country.

The draft notification of the ministry said that with the availability of clean fuels like BS4, there is a need to improve the regulation on emissions from DG sets.
