ESTABLISHMENT OF SOLAR PARKS – 9 parks are fully complete and additional 8 parks are partially complete, with a cumulative capacity of 10,117 MW solar projects commissioned in these parks – EQ Mag
Government has approved 57 Solar Parks with aggregate capacity 39.28 GW, as on 28-02-2023. Out of these Solar Parks, 9 parks are fully complete and additional 8 parks are partially complete, with a cumulative capacity of 10,117 MW solar projects commissioned in these parks.
The reasons for delay in establishing Solar Parks include challenges in acquisition of clear land, mismatch in timelines between solar projects and power evacuation infrastructure, environmental issues like Great Indian Bustard (GIB) issue, regulatory challenges like non- approval of solar tariff by SERCs, etc.
After successful bidding for setting up of solar projects, 14 Solar Parks are delayed. The list of these parks is given at Annexure.
MNRE takes regular review meetings with various stakeholders like park developers, concerned State Governments, CTU/STU etc. to address the issues being faced while implementing the Solar Parks. Government has also cancelled/reduced capacity in many Solar Parks where there is slow progress.
All the State Government Organizations and PSUs are eligible to set up Solar Parks. Most Solar Parks are being taken up by the State Government organizations & PSUs.
MNRE has also advised Ministry of Civil Aviation to install solar power plants in the open space of airports to reduce their electricity expenditure. As per information available, solar projects of capacity over 100 MW have been installed in various airports in the country.
