European spot power prices slip on higher wind and solar generation

PARIS: European electricity prices for day-ahead delivery slipped on Wednesday on the back of forecasts showing an increase in power generation from renewable wind and solar sources.
The German baseload electricity contract for Thursday delivery fell by 8 percent, or 4 euros, to 45.50 euros ($53.51) a megawatt-hour (MWh). The French prompt contract for Thursday dipped by 1.5 euros, or 2.67 percent, to 54.75 euros/MWh.
Electricity production from German wind turbines will rise by 1.5 gigawatts (GW) on Thursday to 4.6 GW, Thomson Reuters data showed. The solar power output will also increase by 240 megawatts to 4.5 GW.
In France, wind electricity output will rise by over 2 GW to 3.3 GW.
