Eurus Kicks Off Commercial Operation of 21-MW Wind Farm in S Korea
Japan’s Eurus Energy Group said today it has commenced the commercial operation of a 21-MW wind park in South Korea.
The company, which owns a 56.7% interest in the plant, partnered up with Daehan Green Energy Co Ltd and Korea South-East Power Co Ltd to build the facility. The Korean partners hold respective stakes of 24.3% and 19% in the wind park.
Located in Taebaek, Gangwon-do province, the Samsu Wind Power facility consists of five 4.5-MW wind turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE). This plant is the first in the country to utilise turbines that big in a mountainous area above the altitude of 1,000 m (3,280.8ft).
Korea South-East Power is also the sole purchaser of the wind farm’s output.
Currently, the Japanese company has three other operational wind farms in South Korea. With the start-up of Samsu Wind, Eurus’ wind capacity in the country increases to 177 MW. Together with its solar capacity, the group has 181 MW there.
