Expo 2020 will be 100 per cent powered by renewable energy
DEWA has confirmed that festivities of ‘The World’s Greatest Show,’ Expo 2020 – will be entirely powered by energy created from renewable sources.
This incredible win for sustainability and green energy was made possible by the astonishing commitment the UAE has made to investing in energy solutions of the future.
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency, WAM – Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), explained that DEWA is building a special smart network for the Expo 2020 distribution system. With an expected 422MW of renewable energy coming from the incredible Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park project.
“The total value of electricity projects implemented by DEWA to support Expo reached AED 420 million” Al Tayer said.
On a separate, and cute (or as cute as electrical infrastructure can be) note “the substations are named Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability after the three subthemes of Expo 2020.”
It’s all about creating a lasting legacy, from both the spirit and the bricks & mortar of Expo 2020 – a move towards a more sustainable future.
