Technological advancement , economic growth, combating climate change and fast tracking technologies for renewables should be the topmost priority said Shri Suresh Prabhu Union Minister of Railways inaugurating NTPC’s second ‘Global Energy Technology Summit’ GETS 2015 in New Delhi today. In his address Shri Prabhu congratulated NTPC for 40 years of purposeful existence and for being a shining star of the country. Speaking on the need for sustainability he reminded that climate change could have been a reason for decline of great civilization like Indus Valley. Changing energy mix in shortest possible time is a challenge for the world he added. Suggesting future strategy for growth of the company he said time has come for NTPC to start providing total energy solutions based on specific requirements. GETS-2015 compendium of abstracts of papers presented was released by Shri Prabhu on the occasion, Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary Department of Science & Technology , Shri Anil Kumar Jha, CMD NTPC were also present.
Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary Department of Science & Technology in his address appreciated NTPC’s role for stablising the power scenario in the country from last 40 years. He emphasized that technology can not be viewed in isolation and has important bearing on water, health, climate and other societal aspects. He said that technology must be Global combining the best of science across the Globe with Local requirement. He said that cleaner coal technologies shall remain relevant as the coal shall remain major contributor of energy in the foreseeable future. He invited innovative ideas from technologists, scientists, citizens and students to contribute in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Anil Kumar Jha, CMD NTPC emphasized that environment sustainability is challenge before humanity and renewables shall become main source of energy for the world by the year 2030. He highlighted that from the GETS-2014 technologies for the future, 47 papers were shortlisted out of which, 24 ideas are currently under implementation.The ceremony was followed by a panel discussion on the opening session with Eminent speakers from IEA Paris, Alstom Switzerland, from Indian power sector.In all 181 papers have been accepted and 84 papers have been selected for the presentation out of which 41 are international papers. Balance accepted papers forms part of the compendium which was released in the inauguration ceremony.
