The capacity reserve ensures the security of electricity supply during peaks in power consumption and supply disruptions.

OSLO: Finland’s Energy Authority has launched a tender to acquire reserve power generation capacity of 600 megawatt (MW) for the period 2020-2022, it said in a statement on Friday.

The capacity reserve ensures the security of electricity supply during peaks in power consumption and supply disruptions.

No less than 300 MW of the total capacity should come from power plants, said the authority, and bids should be submitted until Oct. 28.

Reserve power capacity can also be allocated to the system by big industrial consumers, who can reduce their electricity consumption and feed the reserve energy back to the system when needed.

The 2-year contract that will be offered will commence on July 1, 2020 and will end on June 30, 2022.
