G20 Summit: US, Argentina sign energy, infrastructure deal
Washington: The United States and Argentina have signed a new agreement on energy and infrastructure investment cooperation on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, the US Department of the Treasury said in a statement on Friday.
The two countries intend to cooperate to integrate cleaner energy sources, including natural gas and renewable energy, develop natural gas storage capacity and develop refined product midstream and downstream infrastructure, the Treasury Department said.
The United States and Argentina will also “expand electricity generation from natural gas and convert existing fossil fuel power plants to operate using combined cycle natural gas technology,” the statement added.
The agreement will accelerate Argentina’s adoption of innovative power technologies, including renewables and related mini-grid and battery storage systems and boost investment in highvoltage power transmission and smart grid technology.
