German solar auction awards 1.67 GW amid unprecedented interest – EQ Mag
Germany has allocated 1,673 MW of solar capacity in the latest tender round which witnessed a remarkable surge of interest, with projects vying for subsidies totaling 4,653 MW.
The Federal Network Agency said on Thursday it has selected 124 projects for ground-mounted solar parks and solar plants on structural systems that are neither buildings nor noise barriers. The agency aimed to grant 1.61 GW and received a remarkable 516 bids, surpassing 4.6 GW, by the July 1 deadline.
The volume-weighted average price in the round came in at EUR 0.0647 (USD 0.071) per kWh which is significantly below both the cap of EUR 0.0737 per kWh and the average price from the previous round of EUR 0.0703. Bids in the latest auction ranged from EUR 0.0539 to EUR 0.0665 per kWh.
As many as 22 bids had to be excluded from the competition due to formal errors.
“Once again, the submitted bid volume significantly exceeds the announced capacity. Never before have so many bids been received in this tender. The active participation promotes competition. Now, quickly implemented projects must follow to achieve the targeted expansion goals,” president Klaus Mueller commented.
More than 44% of the allocated capacity went to projects in Bavaria as 65 bids from the southern province totalling 741 MW were successful and will receive subsidies.
The trend of increasing interest in the auction is ongoing after the Federal Network Agency targeted 1.95 GW of capacity in the first round for this year and received proposals with a combined capacity of 2.86 GW.
The next tender round for this segment is scheduled for December 1, 2023.
