Goa Aims for 50% Rooftop Solar Coverage in Households Within a Year – EQ

It allows consumers to directly apply without needing to log in, making solar energy solutions more accessible and user-friendly for residents across the state.
To encourage adoption, the state is offering financial assistance under the revamped Goem Vinamulya Vij Yevjan 2024 scheme. This scheme, aligned with the central government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, offers free rooftop solar installations to eligible households consuming up to 400 units per month. The scheme aims to make solar energy affordable and accessible for a larger section of the population.
Despite Goa’s abundant sunlight, residential solar adoption has been relatively modest, with only about 9.45 MWp installed across 856 households so far. The state government plans to tackle this challenge by simplifying the installation process and offering more support to residents, making it easier for them to transition to renewable energy.
This effort is part of Goa’s broader strategy to align with India’s national goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power by 2030. By focusing on residential rooftop solar systems, Goa aims to empower individual consumers to contribute to clean energy while benefiting from its long-term advantages, such as lower electricity bills.
