Gonvarri’s Solar Steel to deliver RackSmarT to Nuñez de Balboa PV project in Spain
Solar Steel, a division of Spanish Gonvarri Steel Services, is supplying 500 MW of its RackSmarT fixed tilt structure to the Nuñez de BalboaPV project. After completion, the facility will become the largest PV plant installed to date in Europe. A total of 1.430.000 PV modules will be assembled on the structures, which will generate around 832 GWh annually. As reported, Spanish solar project developer Iberdrola held the groundbreaking ceremony for »Nuñez de Balboa« in Usagre (Badajoz) in March. The construction of the facility will involve EUR 300 million investment and create up to 1,000 jobs in the community during peak working periods. Local companies will participate in this project. According to the group’s Chairman Ignacio Galán “This renewable mega-facility will become the spearhead that will consolidate the leadership position of Extremadura, Spain and the European Union in the transition to a more sustainable energy system.”
In 2018 Iberdrola has signed several Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for the Nuñez de Balboa solar plant, including food distribution company Uvesco Group (BM Supermarcados), telecommunications operator Euskaltel and Grupo Kutxabank.
