Good News For EV Owners In Noida, 100 Charging Stations Are Being Set Up In The City
Efforts to make India a more electric vehicle (EV) friendly territory are underway in full swing. Next in line is Noida – where a hundred EV charging stations are about to come up soon. For this, Noida authority has collaborated with EESL – a joint venture of public sector undertakings under the Union Ministry of Power.
A new report by PTI suggests that the two entities might be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) around the installation of EV charging stations in the region soon. The MoU might be signed by as soon as Thursday, as mentioned by a senior official quoted in the report.
The authority official has been quoted as saying “survey work is underway to finalise the spots where these stations will come up. There will be 100 stations across Noida. Three of them — at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra and commercial hubs of Sector 18 and Sector 62 — are proposed to come up within a week of the signing of the MoU.” As per the official, the MoY will be signed in the presence of Noida Chairperson Alok Tandon, CEO Ritu Maheshwari and EESL Managing Director Saurabh Kumar.
As for the implementation part, work is already underway at six different locations around Noida for the said charging stations. Going by the report, three of these stations will be on the road, while three of them will be off road. The capacity of these charging stations will be at least 11 kV.
In addition to the charging stations, the partnership between Noida Authority and EESL will also involve electric vehicles. The authority plans to procure five electric vehicles from EESL for official purpose on a lease basis.
As and when it is signed, the MoU will come as the latest in line by the various government bodies in the country trying to setup a widespread charging network for an increased adoption of EVs. Recently, Ministry of Heavy Industries announced its target of establishing a total of 1000 EV charging stations across various Indian cities through an Expression of Interest (EoI). The Ministry also advised using renewable power as a source for these charging stations.
Uttar Pradesh on the whole has seen the maximum adoption of electric vehicles among all Indian states. The state beat Delhi, placed at second, in terms of total EV registrations by almost double the numbers.
