Govt serious on renewable energy: JERC
Panaji: Chairperson of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) M K Goel said the government is serious about promoting renewable energy. It is wrong to assume that JERC has vested interests in promoting thermal energy alone, he said.
“National level studies and debates are being conducted on solar power. Both solar and coal-based plants have to run hand-in-hand for the stability of the grid. We cannot expect one to rise at the cost of the other,” he said while responding to the allegation cum query of a citizen, Ashish Kamat, that the government wouldn’t have considered importing coal if it was serious about renewable energy.
Goel also said the department cannot refuse connections citing the excuse that its transformers are overloaded.
