Govt to focus on promotion of renewable energy sources: Mamata
Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated on National Renewable Energy Day that the state government is drawing up major schemes for the promotion of solar power and other sources of renewable energy.
She tweeted in this regard: “Today is National Renewable Energy Day. #BanglaGovt is drawing up major schemes for the promotion of solar power & other sources of renewable energy like tidal power in the state under the ‘Aloshree’ scheme in #Bangla, roofs of all government offices & schools are being fitted with solar panels.” Banerjee, who inaugurated Dighashree Bangla International Convention Centre on Tuesday, instructed the civic bodies and Panchayats to conserve energy, save water and the environment. “Unless we take steps now, a day may come when we will not have drinking water or power and the environment will be unfit for human habitation. We should take steps to conserve power, water and environment now,” she said.
Meanwhile, New Town Kolkata development Authority (NKDA), in a meeting last week, has decided to install solar-powered stud lights on select roads. These studs at the road level get recharged by solar energy during the day and emit light from LEDs at night. The light emitted may be red, amber or other colours and may be blinking or steady.
Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) has experimented with two samples on the major arterial road near Biswa Bangla Gate to see if these devices can survive the weight and impact of cars and whether these work unattended for weeks. The samples have been found fit by a team of HIDCO engineers. Now, NKDA has decided to roll out about 1,000 such studs in New Town and will invite tenders shortly.
