SOFIA (Bulgaria) :  PPC Renewables, the green energy unit of Greek power utility PPC, said it has launched a tender for the construction and commissioning of a 550 MW solar park at the site of the former Ptolemaida lignite mine, in the northwestern part of the country.

The estimated value of the project is 216 million euro ($222.4 million) excluding VAT and the provision of photovoltaic (PV) panels, PPC Renewables said in tender documents published earlier this week.

The Ptolemaida mine is located in the municipalities of Eordaia and Kozani, in Greece’s Western Macedonia region.

The contractor is required to carry out the project study, construction, procurement, transportation and installation of other equipment through to commissioning of the facility as well as the construction and repair of connections to the grid, including substations.

Bids will be accepted until midday on September 30.

In June, the Greek power utility struck a binding agreement to acquire the 112 MW renewable energy portfolio of Volterra AE, the energy division of Greek construction group Avax, and transfer it to PPC Renewables.

PPC’s current business plan foresees an increase in its installed renewables capacity to 7.2 GW by 2024 and to 9.5 GW by 2026.

In late 2021, PPC carried out a 1.35 billion capital increase, with a 75 million euro participation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with the aim of speeding up renewable energy investments in Greece and adjacent markets in Southeast Europe.
