Green power: 2,000-kWp solar plant unveiled at waterworks in Sec 39
Chandigarh: UT administrator V P Singh Badnore inaugurated 2000 kWp, largest in the region, grid tied rooftop solar photovoltaic power plant at Water Works Station, Sector 39.
Governor Badnore appreciated the efforts taken by the UT administration in developing Chandigarh as a model solar city.
He desired that Chandigarh should aim to achieve 50 MW solar target before 2022. He took a round of various facilities in water works station. Member of Parliament Kirron Kher lauded the efforts of the administration in making it a leading solar city of the country.
The 2000 kWp Grid tied rooftop SPV power plant projects has been implemented and commissioned by Chandigarh Renewable Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (Crest) at a cost of Rs 12.80 crore, which include operation and maintenance charge for 10 years. The plant is able to generate 2.60 MU of solar energy per year, which is equivalent to reduction of 1801 metric ton of CO2 and in turn equivalent to planting of 1.94 lakh trees per year, and hence a remarkable initiative under climate change action plan.
UT adviser Parimal Rai emphasised the government has set an ambitious target of installation of 50 MW solar plant for UT by 2022.
Though it is a huge task but the administration is committed in achieving it by providing various incentives and inviting private sector investment in this solar sector. He further informed that with the installation of this 2 MW plant, the total achievement for Chandigarh has reached to 13.5 MW solar power.
