In Short : The Global Solar Council (GSC) launching a rooftop solar project to enhance sustainability is a positive initiative. By promoting the installation of solar panels on rooftops, the project likely aims to increase the adoption of clean energy, reduce carbon footprints, and contribute to a more sustainable energy mix. This aligns with global efforts to transition towards renewable energy sources and address environmental concerns.
In Detail : The Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting sustainability and energy independence within the industrial sector of the State.
GSIA’s latest project involves the installation of Rooftop Solar Power Plants with the goal of adding 20 Megawatts (MW) of solar capacity to industrial establishments across the State.
This ambitious venture marks a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and encouraging the adoption of renewable energy sources within Goa’s industrial landscape.
With the immediate objective of reaching 20 MW of rooftop solar capacity, GSIA is committed to delivering tangible environmental benefits while also advancing the economic interests of the region.
In its efforts to promote this initiative, GSIA has been actively engaging its members through various outreach programmes and media campaigns.
Historically Low Solar Panel Prices: The current market presents unprecedented opportunities for industries to invest in solar power infrastructure, with solar panel prices at historic lows. This favorable economic environment allows businesses to transition towards sustainable energy sources, mitigating risks associated with conventional energy price fluctuations.
Financial Incentives for Small Industries: Recognizing the importance of supporting smaller industries in their transition to renewable energy, both state and central governments offer incentives for establishments with LT connections. These incentives aim to lower entry barriers and encourage widespread adoption of solar power among smaller industrial units. Additionally, interest subvention schemes offered by various banks help ensure that capital costs do not hinder cash flows.
Successful Prototype Model: GSIA’s initiative is bolstered by the successful completion of a prototype model for a 1 MW collective installation in Pilerne Industrial Estate. This serves as a testament to the feasibility and scalability of the proposed rooftop solar plants, paving the way for broader implementation across industrial clusters in Goa.
Anirudh Dempo, President of GSIA, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “The implementation of rooftop solar plants reflects our dedication to fostering sustainable industrial practices and driving positive environmental change in Goa. Adoption of Solar Energy is not only environmentally sustainable but also economically favorable. Through collaborative efforts and creating awareness, we are confident of achieving our goal of 20 MW of new solar capacity in the near future.”
The GSIA’s initiative represents a significant milestone in Goa’s journey towards sustainable development, showcasing the potential for renewable energy to drive economic growth while preserving the environment.
