Gujarat govt to set up 2 lakh solar roof tops on residential buildings
The state plans to generate 30 lakh MW renewable energy by 2022
Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of generation of 1.75 lakh MW renewable energy, his home state Gujarat will generate a total of 30 lakh MW renewable energy by 2022.
Speaking at a programme held in Gandhinagar on Friday for the launch of Covenant of Mayors of Gujarat for Climate and Energy, Saurabh Patel, Energy Minister, said that eight lakh MW renewable energy was being generated and remaining 22 lakh MW will be generated by 2022.
He also said that the state government had planned to set up 2 lakh solar roof tops on residential buildings across the state.
Patel said that as part of the state government’s hybrid policy, planning has been done to generate 30,000 MW in 10 years. The Centre is to provide subsidy for setting up a Park in Kutch.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that with eight municipal corporations of the state joining the Covenant of Mayors, these cities will get guidance for sustainable living and low carbon.
He also exhorted the people of Gujarat to join the national level campaign to stop the use of single use plastic.
Mayors and municipal commissioners were among those who attended the meeting.
