In Short : Gujarat has emerged as the leader in wind power generation in India, surpassing Tamil Nadu with an installed capacity of over 12,000 MW as of mid-2023. This success is attributed to the state’s favorable wind conditions and its strong commitment to renewable energy. Gujarat is now aiming to contribute 100 GW to India’s renewable energy target by 2030.
In Detail : Gandhinagar: Gujarat ranks first in the country in wind power generation with 12,132MW of generation, said state climate change minister Mulu Bera on Thursday.
The minister said that as of July 31, wind power projects with a capacity of 47,075.43MW have been set up in the state and 12,132.78MW of power is being generated. This is 25.8 Percent of the country’s total wind energy production, the minister added.
He added that the state govt has set a target of generating 100 gigawatts of power through conventional and renewable sources and various initiatives have been taken up to achieve this target.
An official statement said that organizations like the Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of States (AREAS), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) and the union new and renewable energy department have given four awards to Gujarat in the past three years for setting up windmills.
MoS climate change, Mukesh Patel, said that Gujarat first announced a wind energy policy in 1993-94, and it has since been revised five times.
