Gujarat will open the world’s largest cricket stadium
Gujarat will open the world’s biggest cricket arena in January 2020. Spread crosswise over 63 sections of land, the arena has 1,10,000 seats. There are 10,000 a greater number of seats than the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The arena is being set up at Motera in Ahmedabad. The Sardar Patel Stadium was planned by the Australian organization Populus, who constructed the Melbourne Cricket Stadium.
The stadium is also in the forefront of amenities. The stadium will have 76 corporate boxes, four dressing rooms and three practice grounds, as well as an indoor cricket academy and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. The stadium cost about Rs 700 crores. Half of the money is borne by the Gujarat Cricket Association.
The new stadium comes from a 25-year-old old stadium in Moterai. The former stadium had 50,000 seats. The new stadium is expected to use LED lights instead of floodlights. Plans are being made to run the light using solar energy and build 65 rainwater harvesting stations. The stadium has a life expectancy of 100 years. The organizers hope that the inaugural game will be India-World 11th Twenty20.
