The Indian government has actively taken measures to bolster the growth of renewable energy, specifically solar energy, across the nation and Gujarat’s cumulative installed solar energy capacity, as on June 30, stood at an impressive 10,133.66 megawatts (MW), Minister of New and Renewable Energy and Power RK Singh told the Rajya Sabha, in response to question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani.
The minister further said that during the fiscal year 2022–23, the state of Gujarat generated 10,335.32 million units (MU) of solar power.
The nationwide solar power landscape reflects a cumulative installed capacity of 70,096 MW, with India boasting an estimated solar energy potential of 7,48,990 MW. The statement further elucidates that solar projects are predominantly developed through private investments by project developers chosen via tariff-based competitive bidding, catering to captive consumption and third-party sales. Presently, there are 55.90 gigawatts (GW) of solar projects under implementation.
