Haryana renewable energy department has added 6 MW of solar energy to its supply in Gurgaon in a year, taking total generation across the city to 20 MW, officials told TOI.
Officials said they have 154 new installations to make till November this year. As of now, there are 254 solar installations in the city, along with 86 bi-directional meters, they said.
As part of its policy to reduce carbon footprint, Haryana came up with a grid connected solar rooftop scheme in 2014, making it mandatory for consumers with homes with area 500 sq yds or more to install solar plants. Instructions were sent to schools, malls, hotels, industrial units etc. As per department of renewable energy guidelines, domestic customers will get incentive of Re 1 per unit and industrial consumers 25 paise per unit.
Solar plants cost around Rs 59,000-75,000. The state also offers subsidies for buying a system from affiliated sellers. Officials said return on investment period (RoIP) for solar is 6 years, while its performance efficiency is estimated at around 25 years
