Hanwha Q Cells and Microsoft have signed a supply agreement under which the former will provide latter with 2.5GW of PV modules. Besides modules, Q Cells will also provide EPC services so as to help deploy these modules at Microsoft’s facilities across the US. This news was first picked up by other renewable energy news websites.

Q Cells is a subsidiary of South Korean industrial conglomerate Hanwha Group and provides total PV solutions for a wide range of application scenarios. Due to having more than 200 business units and around 60 cloud service regions around the world, Microsoft has been generating an enormous amount of greenhouse gases annually. Many of its facilities consume thousands of kilowatt-hours of electricity every hour. Therefore, the technology giant is ramping up efforts to make itself more energy efficient. In recent years, Microsoft has been collaborating with solution providers such as First Solar and LONGi in setting up PV projects. Going forward, the share of renewables in Microsoft’s energy supply will continue to grow.
