The Hero Group’s renewable energy business Hero Future Energies (HFE) has announced that it has won the Kerala State Electricity Board’s tender to build a 10 MW/20 MWh grid connected energy storage plant. This project for HFE will be the company’s first utility-scale battery energy storage system. After the contract is signed, HFE will have fifteen months to commission the project.
In India, there are 1.6 GW worth of wind and solar projects in HFE’s current portfolio. The business has set a global installed and operating capacity growth target of five GW for 2024. HFE specialises on providing renewable energy projects using technologies including battery storage, floating solar, and green hydrogen in addition to conventional solar and wind projects.
“The experience gained from the 10 MW/20 MWh energy storage plant will enable us to execute similar projects with more states likely to issue storage tenders in the days ahead. We believe that storage will be integral to the next phase of growth of renewables in India and as such will continue to be a key thrust area for HFE,” reveals a source from the company.
