In Detail : On April 11, 2025, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu virtually inaugurated a 110 kW rooftop solar power plant at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Bilaspur. The project was completed at a cost of ₹70 lakh and marks a significant milestone as the state’s first “Green DC Office,” emphasizing a shift toward renewable energy adoption.

The initiative is a part of the state government’s broader commitment to sustainability and clean energy. By utilizing solar power at administrative offices, the government aims to reduce its carbon footprint and encourage similar efforts in other districts and sectors.

This solar project is integrated into a larger development agenda for Bilaspur. Alongside the solar inauguration, the Chief Minister also launched water sports activities at Kol Dam, which are expected to enhance local tourism and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

Further developments in Bilaspur include the creation of a City Livelihood Centre, the setup of four Space Labs, and the opening of a Model Career Centre. The Himachal Pradesh government has identified tourism as a key economic driver and is investing ₹2,400 crore to develop new tourist destinations. The plan includes wellness centers and high-end hotels aimed at attracting both domestic and international tourists, boosting the state’s revenue and job opportunities.

By combining green energy projects with tourism and infrastructure growth, Himachal Pradesh is aiming to become a model state for sustainable development.
