Huge Energy Ltd, a London-registered developer of liquid air energy storage (LAES) technology, on Monday unveiled an intention to build the first LAES plant in Poland.

The company said it has signed a letter of intent and agreement for the implementation of a LAES system with Polish company Promet Plast SC, which has interests in the renewable energy sector and is a leading player in the Gaj Olawski energy cluster near Wroclaw, southwestern Poland.

Initially an energy storage facility of 25 MW/125 MWh is planned, with ambitions for another six units of similar scale.

Huge Energy says it offers installations starting at 10 MWh. LAES is a cryogenic energy storage system that turns ambient air into liquid, which is stored in tanks and, when needed, expanded into a gas which generates electricity. The company explains it offers second generation technology with greater efficiency.
