In Short : Husk Power Systems has emerged as the world’s largest owner and operator of private sector minigrids. The company focuses on providing affordable, reliable, and renewable energy to underserved communities, primarily in rural areas. With its innovative minigrid solutions, Husk Power is playing a pivotal role in enhancing energy access and supporting sustainable development globally.

In Detail : Husk Power Systems has announced a 100% expansion of its community solar minigrid portfolio over the past year, now reaching more than 1.5 million people across rural Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

The company’s impressive growth has established its presence in over 400 communities, providing reliable electricity to more than 30,000 small businesses. With 20 MW of solar power generation capacity and 2,500 kilometers of transmission and distribution infrastructure, Husk’s operations are significantly reducing carbon emissions by replacing an estimated 3,000 diesel generators, preventing 15,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere annually.

“We have demonstrated that scaling minigrid deployment is not just possible – it’s happening now,” said Manoj Sinha, CEO and Co-Founder of Husk Power Systems. “We are the first company to deploy hundreds of new minigrids in a single year, proving that with appropriate policies, capital, and innovation, we can achieve the scale needed to eliminate energy poverty.”

The company’s rapid expansion has been supported by innovative solutions, including the launch of their PRISM containerized system, which enables the installation of one minigrid per day. To manage this growth, Husk Power Systems has expanded its workforce to over 1,000 employees, doubling its staff in 2023.

Looking ahead, Husk Power Systems has set ambitious targets for 2025, including doubling its revenue and expanding its customer base by 2.5 times. The company has developed a substantial 100 MW project pipeline across multiple countries and plans to pursue pre-IPO equity and debt financing in late 2025 to fuel growth through the decade’s end.

In a significant development, Husk Power Systems has partnered with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deploy 250MW of decentralized renewable energy projects.

This makes Husk Power Systems the first renewable energy firm to join REA’s Renewable Energy Service Companies initiative, positioning the company to complement existing electricity distribution companies with utility-scale portfolios.
