In Short : Hygenco Green Energies is advancing its green ammonia project in Gopalpur, Odisha, aiming to commence operations by 2027. The company has partnered with Denmark-based Topsoe for advanced ammonia production technology and secured a memorandum of understanding with REC for $280 million in debt financing. Additionally, Hygenco has signed a term sheet with Ameropa to supply green ammonia to European and Asian markets, supporting global decarbonization efforts.

In Detail : Hygenco Green Energies said on Tuesday that it has received the prestigious Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) pre-certification from Bureau Veritas under the CertifHy scheme. It is the second Indian firm to achieve this feat.

This pre-certification paves the way for the company to export green ammonia to the European Union (EU), further advancing its mission to deliver sustainable energy solutions and strengthen its commitment to a greener future.

The CertifHy scheme, officially recognised by the European Commission, enables end-users across the EU to access green hydrogen or low-carbon hydrogen. It offers a comprehensive framework for certifying renewable hydrogen and e-fuels, ensuring full compliance with EU regulations and international standards.

Hygenco’s commitment to these rigorous standards was thoroughly audited by the Bureau Veritas, a globally recognised testing agency, the green hydrogen and green ammonia producer said.

Amit Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of Hygenco, said: “Securing the RFNBO pre-certification for our green ammonia marks a pivotal milestone in our journey to drive the energy transition and support global decarbonisation efforts.”

The company’s upcoming green ammonia plant, at Tata Steel’s Special Economic Zone Industrial Park in Gopalpur (Odisha), aims to produce a total of 1.1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) upon full completion.

The project, which is planned in multiple phases, with Phase 1 and Phase 2 each having a production capacity of 600 tonnes per day, will have the first phase operational by 2027.

The CertifHy pre-certification boosts Hygenco’s reputation in the renewable energy market and opens doors to European markets, aligning with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) targets.

This milestone places Hygenco at the forefront of the green ammonia industry, supporting global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions.
